The Song of Songs in music
Between piety and sensuality, a world of symbols and scents
This program explores the poetic and mystical tension of the Cantique des Cantiques, a biblical text believed to have been written by a woman, where desire, sacred love, and sensual evocations intertwine.
Monteverdi, Campra, Rusca, and Kapsberger set the language of love to music — at times chaste, at times burning.
These sacred songs are echoed by the virtuosic improvisations of Freddy Eichelberger on the organ, where each note resonates like a word, symbolizing man’s response to woman.
By the glow of dimmed light (often candlelight), Les Kapsber’girls invite the audience to a meditative, almost suspended listening experience.
